There is currently a TV crew and a reporter (Ann Curry, if that means anything to anyone) in McMurdo from NBC. You can tell who they are because they look a little lost, are carrying around large equipment, and include one woman wearing a very fashionable white, fur-trimmed jacket.
They are taping segments for a special "Ends of the Earth" global broadcast that will be shown over a few days on the Today Show and NBC Nightly News. If you're interested, you can check out Ann Curry's take on the thrills of Antarctica here.
The Today Show will be broadcasting live from McMurdo on November 5th and 6th at 5-9am Eastern (3-7am Mountain). There is a chance they will do a "crowd pan" for a shot of the community on the 6th, but later in the show (they told us not to show up before 8am, Eastern time)...this also might get spliced into taped segments shown later.
NBC Nightly News will be featuring Antarctica on November 6th, from 6:15-7pm Eastern (4:15-5pm Mountain).
I'm unsure what the content of these shows will be, exactly, although I've heard that they will be focusing on the environment here and the scientific research currently happening. Let me know if you tune in!
And now, a little glimpse into what we do during our down time:

playing cribbage- a favorite on the ice- in the Cargo Slack Shack on a slow night

Evan improves the cribbage board, so three of us can play

Cribbage clichés-
(when counting your hand)
1. 15 for 2 and the rest won't do.
2. 15, 2, 15, 4 and there ain't no more.
I am sure there are more for higher scoring hands, it's just that... well... let's just say, I am more "familiar" with these sayings!
