The past week has brought clear blue skies and warmer weather! Who knew that +36F could feel so warm! McMurdo has turned into MudMurdo: mudcicles on the vans, and rivers in the roads.
we have to knock these mudcicles off before venturing out to the snow road, so they don't drop off and melt holes in the road!
The melt-out today created a large, slushy pool at the transition: where we drive off of Ross Island and onto the permanent Ice Shelf on the way to Willy Field (the current runway in use). Never have I been more happy to have a lift kit and large tires on the vans we drive! Soon, it will be bad enough that we will be driving Deltas only.

When I went to fuel my van this afternoon, I found that the fuel pumps were surrounded by a torrential river! Fleet Ops is hard at work, trying to contain the melt-off into the ditches, but this one got out of control!
